Our Mission
At Detroit E-Foil, our mission is to introduce people to the freedom and thrill of hydrofoiling. We combine expert instruction, cutting-edge equipment, and a passion for the water to create unforgettable experiences. Our goal is simple: help more people discover the feeling of flying above the water and welcome them into a growing community of adventurers.
Our Story
After discovering kiteboarding in 2013, Tom—co-founder of Detroit E-Foil—set out to fully immerse himself in the sport. He traveled to Puerto Rico, where he spent a year riding almost every day, developing his skills and deepening his passion for life on the water.
From there, Tom moved to Miami and joined Adventure Sports, one of the largest watersports distributors in the United States. While there, he managed the kiteboarding school and gained valuable experience inside the watersports industry. Over six years, he worked closely with instructors, riders, and the newest gear hitting the market.
Eventually, Tom returned home to Michigan with a clear goal: bring his passion for watersports back to the Great Lakes and share it with others.
There was one challenge—kiteboarding depends heavily on wind, and Michigan’s conditions can be unpredictable. But during his time at Adventure Sports, Tom had seen firsthand the rise of a new innovation: e-foiling. Unlike kiteboarding, e-foiling allows riders to glide above the water without needing wind or waves.
Seeing the potential, Tom reached out to his friend—and now business partner—Dewy. The idea was simple: get a few e-foils, introduce people to the experience, and see where it could go.
In 2024, Detroit E-Foil was established, offering e-foil lessons in Southeast Michigan and giving people a new way to experience the water.
